Tool Spotlight: Getting the Most From the Bankroll Tracker

Most players have no idea whether they’re winning. They remember the big nights and forget the slow leaks. The bankroll tracker fixes that in about thirty seconds a session.

What to log

Straight after you play, add:

• Buy-in — including every rebuy and add-on.
• Cash-out — what you left with (zero if you busted).
• Hours — the time you actually played.
• Game, stakes and where — so you can see which games suit you.
• Notes — one line: what went well, what you’d change.

The tracker works out your net result, hourly rate, ROI and share of winning sessions, and draws your results over time.

Reading the numbers

Net result is the bottom line — but on its own it’s noisy.

Hourly rate tells you what your time at the table is worth. It’s the most useful number for cash players.

ROI (net result divided by total buy-ins) is the one to watch in tournaments, where hours vary wildly.

Winning sessions % feels important but isn’t. A winning player can lose most sessions if the wins are bigger — especially in tournaments.

Don’t judge a night

Poker variance is huge. A few dozen sessions can still be pure luck, good or bad. Look for trends over months, not days. If your graph is heading down over a big sample, that’s a signal to study — or to move down in stakes.

A monthly check-in

Once a month:

1. Look at your graph and hourly rate.
2. Filter your notes for repeated mistakes.
3. Compare games and stakes — you may be much better at one.
